Daddy Daughter Day, SOLC 2015, 15 of 31

When my daughter was 5, my husband took her to her first Broadway show, The Lion King. In that moment he started a tradition just for them – Daddy-Daughter Day in NYC. On that first trip in to NYC they went to dinner and Dylan’s Candy Bar and shopping together for clothes. He spoiled her, she loved it. The next Daddy-Daughter day took them to see Newsies on Broadway. She came home with a new dress, lots of candy from Dylan’s Candy Bar and a Newsies hat. She continued to sing the songs from the musical and even taught them to my son.

Yesterday, they went to see The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime on Broadway. They took the train into NYC, ate at Shake Shack, went to the matinee, went to Patsy’s Pizza for dinner and then shopping at Macy’s. What a day for an almost – 11 year old. She loved every minute of it. Even though the play was a little sophisticated for her, she appreciated it for what she could understand and relished her uninterrupted day with her father.

At home with my son, for Mommy-son day, I missed her. I was jealous of her great day in NYC. But I am so proud of this tradition they have started. It is clear that it is one that they both treasure.

This sounds like a wonderful tradition! I can imagine them doing this long after she’s an adult. Dylan’s Candy Bar – what a treat!
